In the early 1960's Jack Davidson began doing business with Larry Stellings making boat propellers. As the owner and designer of Sanger Boats Jack was very particular about the products he used and chose to make his own. By the mid 60's Jack bought the Stellings name from Larry and began doing business as Stellings Propellers, Inc. This venture lasted through the 70's and included the propellers as well as a wide range of marine hardware for flat bottom and hydro boats. By the late 70's the economy began to shift away from this focus.
After purchasing a 28 foot offshore cigarette boat Jack was not happy with the turn around for getting a set of headers for his new boat. He immediately began working on his own design. Jack bought the bending machines and was soon creating and selling his own brand of stainless steel offshore headers. Jack changed the name of the company in the late 1980's to d.b.a. (doing business as) Stellings Marine Products. It wasn't long before the name Stellings Marine Products was well known in the offshore boating world. As an inventor and designer Jack was able to visualize what he wanted and then successfully create it. By the early 90's Jack also began to design and sell extension boxes for the offshore boats.
Jack built his first 20' Alley Cat boat in 1981. Over the next 20 years Jack built numerous Alley Cats ranging from 20 - 32 feet, with the 32 foot boat being designed and completed shortly before his death. Jack passed away in 2001 and his daughter, Kathy, has continued to run and manage Stellings Marine Products. Stellings continues to build the quality headers Jack designed.
